FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Star of Broadway’s “Jersey Boys” and Hip-Hop Phenom Remy Ma
to Highlight Annual Safe Space Gala Spring Benefit will also Feature Performers from the Safe Space Arts Academy
New York, May 3, 2006 – Safe Space, a local non-profit organization that works to strengthen families and empower youth, is excited to announce its annual Spring Benefit: “Lights, Camera, Action: A Night Where Stars Shine.” The event, to showcase the talents of youth in the Safe Space Arts Academy, will take place at BB King Blues Club in Times Square on May 15th.
Hosted by the Safe Space Board of Directors and event committee, the high-energy benefit will support many Safe Space programs including the Arts Academy, High Risk Drop-In Center and Community Health Services.
“A Night Where Stars Shine” will feature a variety of performers, including John Lloyd Young, revered star of the hit Broadway musical “Jersey Boys”, and hip-hop artist Remy Ma. Hot 97 DJ, Fatman Scoop will host the show. The evening will culminate with lively performances by talented young stars from the Arts Academy.
“The Spring Benefit is a wonderful opportunity for our many supporters to experience the amazing talents of the youth in our Arts Academy,” said Lilliam Barrios-Paoli, CEO of Safe Space. “We’re all looking forward to this wonderful show and the performances of our talented kids, who have worked long and hard on them.”
This year, Safe Space is honoring three exceptional community members for their dedication to the organization and its benefactors: Outstanding Corporation – NYMEX Charitable Foundation; Outstanding Foundation – Starr Foundation; and Outstanding Individual – Jeanne B. Mullgrav, Commissioner of the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).
“It is wonderful to see the many supporters of Safe Space come together for one special night. The exuberance of the performers is contagious and it’s the best expression of everything that Safe Space is able to give to kids,” said Wendy Rowden, Safe Space Board Chair. “Their accomplishments becomes our accomplishments and we all come away energized to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.”
Sponsorships and ticket sales from this event will enable Safe Space to continue offering unique and innovative services that are consistent and appropriate for the ever-changing needs of the youth and families. The goal is to raise $100,000 to support Safe Space services. Several corporations and foundations are lending tremendous support to the event and Safe Space, including NYMEX Charitable Foundation, Capalino + Company, Cushman & Wakefield, Proskauer Rose, LLP, The Rockefeller Group and TJX Companies. Sponsorships help to underwrite the cost of the event and support Safe Space programming.
